Embargoed Areas
To ensure fair competition, the (potential) competition terrain is subject to an embargo.
If you plan to compete, do not enter these areas before the event. This includes:
No visiting, running, biking, skiing, or hiking in the terrain
No training or route testing
No scouting, observing, or “just having a look”
No use or possession of any orienteering maps of the area (past or present) when in the terrain
Bottom line: stay out of embargoed areas.
Heritage Park Exception
Heritage Park is a public venue and may be accessed for non-orienteering purposes (e.g., a wedding or public event).
However:
No scouting or deliberate familiarization of the terrain
No use or possession of any orienteering map of Heritage Park when at the Park
No detours beyond what is required for your visit
If you’re there, you’re a visitor—not preparing for competition.
Any breach of the embargo may result in disqualification.
The currently embargoed areas include:
Bow Valley Provincial Park
Mount Laurie / Mount Yamnuska
Heritage Park, Calgary
Rumsey Natural Area
